The Indian National Agricultural Research System (NARS) with its nationwide network of educational and research institutions consisting of state agricultural universities, zonal research stations, ICAR institutes with regional stations established Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS) in 1996-97 to strengthen its research information funded by National Agricultural Research Project. Besides this activity, the Unit is entrusted with responsibility of developing ICT in agricultural research, maintaining the Institute's network, the website and the web server administration. Further, ARIS cell was renamed as AKMU as per ICAR guidelines (F.No. 3-1/2010-GAS (DIPA) dtd. 27 January, 2011. The AKMU is connected to other buildings in the central campus through Optical Fibre Cabling (OFC). At present AKMU is provided with the 1Gbps National Knowledge Network (NKN) internet connectivity (www.nkn.in) through BSNL which is shared by all divisions/sections in the central campus of M.P.K.V., Rahuri.
